Add the icon to the project, right-click on the icon file in the project and select "Properties", then check the property "Application Icon".
Also see the HomeScreen class in the API docs to set the rollover icon.

Not sure this is your question, but if you want to fiddle about on the device, you can move the icon to the start o the icons on the 'Home' screen. Use the Menu button when you have an icon in focus. On my test Bold, I've moved Downloads so that it always appears on on the Main Screen.

So, is the final word in this - that you cannot set the applicaiton icon programatically? They always show up in the downloads folder and the user has to move the icon manually?

No that thread is going out of the way. What I want to do initially was to see my application display among the one show in the "Home Screen" (first screen you see when you turn on your BB). I wasn't sure if it needed coding or not and the answer is it doesn't.
Basically a BB allow user to "re-organize" their list of applications and the "Home Screen" simply shows up the first 5 applications icon. So if from the "Applications" screen you move the focus on a given icon and press the "Option" key this give the option to "Move" this icon. If you move it, let say as the first one, you'll now see this application as the first one in the Home Screen.
