Interpret GC messages in the Event Log

BlackBerry smartphone logs events related to Garbage Collection (GC) in the Event Log. The following table explains these events in more detail:


Event  Description 
+GC(R) RAM GC: Free unused RAM objects
+GC(F) Full GC : Free unused RAM and flash objects
+GC(P) Persistent GC
  • Free unused RAM and flash objects
  • Purge persistent objects
+GC(T) Thorough GC
  • Free unused RAM and flash objects
  • Flush RAM sections to flash
  • Purge persistent objects
+GC(E) Emergency GC
  • Free unused RAM and flash objects
  • Purge persistent objects
-GC End of GC statistics
xGC Cancelled GC
  • Keyboard event or radio event caused an interrubtible GC to stop
(GC) Pre-emptive GC
STCG Suggested Thorough GC
  • Java code has requested that a thorough GC be performed
  • Usually triggered by the Low Memory Manager (LMM)

Note: Holding the Alt key and pressing LGLG on the BlackBerry smartphone displays the Event Log. The Event Log can also be downloaded to a computer using the JavaLoader tool. This tool is located in the BIN folder of the BlackBerry® Java Development Environment (BlackBerry JDE) installation path.

 

For example, javaloader -u eventlog > c:\eventlog.txt will download the Event Log of the BlackBerry smartphone as eventlog.txt.
