Re: Is there any way for BlackBerry Applications to interact with a server?

If the data is not too large use sms, or if data is large use sms to notify blackberry app to initiate a http connection to server.

Re: Is there any way for BlackBerry Applications to interact with a server?

Ah yes, good point, meant to cover that.

While there is currently a PUSH mechanism for Corporate users, there is no PUSH mechanism for non Corporate users or for Corporate users to be pushed data from a non corporate Server.  This is coming but is not here now.  But PUSH is effectively what you want to do.  So you have two choices:

a) Poll the Server looking for updates

b) Piggy back on some existing mechanism that will PUSH to the device.

For (b) you have two choices, SMS or email.  Both are doable, personally I prefer email because I think this is easier to do from a Server.  As suggested by the previous Poster, you can include the data you are pushing in the email/SMS, or use this as a prompt for the BlackBerry application to get data.
