Live streaming and meta radio data

I know that you can stream live radio stations through HTTP and RTSP by providing a direct link to the player in the API but I have seen quite a few applications in the market which not only stream radio but also show meta information like:

- current song name

- radio name

- song duration

- radio logo

So I was wondering how does a certain app extract all that information? Does it parse the RTSP stream and extract it from there or another approach is used?

Yes, those apps typically use a Streaming Player API type of implementation as outlined in this blog article and the KB on Streaming media Start to Finish: http://devblog.blackberry.com/2010/05/streaming-player-api/. With this implementation the app itself provides the SourceStream to the java api player, and thus, any type of metadata (Artist Info, Album Art, etc) can be embedded within the stream, and extracted by the app before feeding it to the native java player.

You can also utilize the MetaDataControl class. More on that explained here:
