MediaException while accessing Camera

[ Edited ]

Hi,

I am trying to use VideoControl.getSnapShot() to access camera using JSR 135 in BB 8330. When i try to do  Manager.createPlayer("capture://video" ) ; MediaException is thrown and the exception message is null.Am using JDE 3.0 and the guide says JSR135 is supported also the same doesn't seem to work even on the real device.

Pls help

thanks

Re: MediaException while accessing Camera

Hi Krishnan,

There are many parts of JSR-135. We implemented the getSnapShot() api starting in JDE v4.6. There is a beta version of JDE v4.6 available for downlod here: http://na.blackberry.com/eng/developers/devbeta.jsp#tab_tab_jde

You can test with the device simulators included with JDE v4.6, but of course to test on a real device you must have a device that is running minimum handheld software version 4.6 which will be launched with the BlackBerry Bold (9000).

Re: MediaException while accessing Camera

Hi Tariq,

Thanks for the reply. So is there no way that one can access programmaticly the camera in device earlier to 4.6 ?

Re: MediaException while accessing Camera

Not directly, but you can invoke the camera and listen for when the user saves the picture they have taken.  Have a look at the fileexplorerdemo included with the BlackBerry JDE for an example.

Did you have a chance to look at the fileexplorer demo?  If so do you have any specific questions about it?  I'm not sure what details you are looking for.

Re: MediaException while accessing Camera

You can use a FileSystemJournalListener to listen for when new files are created and obtain the path using the FileSystemJournal class.  For an example, have a look at the FileExplorerDemoJournalListener that is part of the fileexplorerdemo included with the BlackBerry JDE.

Re: MediaException while accessing Camera

Hello Tariq,

We have a previous customer who specifically needs the app to be able to take photos programmatically.  Upgrading to a Bold is not a problem for them; however, I followed the link you gave for the beta JDE 4.6 and it's dead.

Can you tell me, is JDE 4.6 ready?  Is their requirement possible to fulfill with JDE 4.6?  (Assuming handheld software >= 4.6)?

Many thanks,

Mike
