Okay so I figured out what the problem was. I had extracted the JAR file locally to understand what direct classed I needed to import. When I extracted the .jar the extracted folders and .class files were in the same relative path as the .JAR file, which I why I think the complier was complaining. I deleted the extracted folders and now it's fine!
You don't necessarily have to do the command line compilation, I created a new project under the same workspace, added the .jar file to the project, and changed the properties so that it was a library application. Then went to my original java application and changed the dependencies to include the new library app.
Things are compiling now and I am not getting any runtime errors. Finally I can continue my development. Thanks to all that helped, I'm sure i'll be back
