Newbie- how to rename existing menu item and insert after

Need to add a new calendar item custom item.  First thought is to intercept the ApplicationMenuItemRepository calendar menu and grab the New item, replace it with New Appointment, then add a new menuitem beneath that says New MyItem. But that doesn't seem to be available.  Any Ideas?

Sorry it this is stupid, I'm learning :-)

It's not possible. You can only add a menu item, you can't take one that already exists, modify it, then add your own under it. Sorry.
