Re: Opening Microsoft Office Documents in Blackberry Device

Do you know that BlackBerry already includes that software in its OS 4.5 upgrade, called DocumentsToGo?

Re: Opening Microsoft Office Documents in Blackberry Device

I guess I would also suggest something like source code for openoffice or consider transcoding.

You have an API for rendering proprietary format documents? LOL.

How can I open a documentwritten with a piece of charcoal on a shovel?

Note that the above is intended to be funny but not frivolous. How could I open this on a BB? I'd prefer someting

like an OCR transcoder on a server, rather than killing my CPU rendering graphics.

From a browser page, no, you can't. You'll need to use a laptop or PC, which the BlackBerry is not.

Re: Opening Microsoft Office Documents in Blackberry Device

The MDS Simulator does not support the document transcoding features supported by a BlackBerry Enterprise Server or the BlackBerry Internet Service.  To test this on the BlackBerry Simulator you'd need to connect to a BlackBerry Enterprise Server.

Re: Opening Microsoft Office Documents in Blackberry Device

I could achieve the required solution using two methods...

Method 1:

Using FileConnection where in you can open the connection to the specified URL and download the file as bytes of data and then you can open the file using Documents Togo application in your Blackberry Device.

Method 2:

Using javax.microedition.content.Invocation and javax.microedition.content.Registry which would find the default document handler in your device and open up the document.

Here is the example code

String URL = "http://Server Ip: port/xyz.doc";

Invocation invoc = new Invocation (URL);

Registry _registry=Registry.getRegistry ("net.rim.device.api
.content.BlackBerryContentHandler");

_registry.invoke (invoc);

==========================================================================================

I feel Method 2 to be more preferable and when I try running the code mentioned in Method 2 on the blackberry device I get the following Error Stating testprojfilesys: classjavax.microedition.content.registrynot found

I dont know why I am getting this error.

Just have a clue in my mind, can it be because of difference in blackberry OS version and JDE that I am using to compile the code?? …… not very sure.

Please guide ….
