PLEASE HELP - DEBBUGING SIMPLE APP ON A DEVICE I.E. BB BOLD 9780 ON MAC - THANKS IN ADVANCE

Hi all,

i really need help guys with the debugging of a simple bb app on a BB BOLD 9780. I'm slightly new with regards to BB debugging in devices and I understaind due to the lack of simulators as in windows device debugging is the only way for now.

Basically I have been receiving the following error message: No debug information found for net_rim_cldc, Please ensure that you have in staled the simulator package that the matches the handheld code you are attempting to debug.

I have installed the debug files for the the BB BOLD 9780 as per the folollowing links (http://docs.blackberry.com/en/developers/deliverables/23674/Create_debug_pkg_manually_Mac_1427783_11... (http://docs.blackberry.com/en/developers/deliverables/12002/Debug_an_app_on_BB_device_656366_11.jsp) (http://docs.blackberry.com/en/developers/deliverables/23674/Debug_BB_app_debug_pkg_Mac_1427782_11.js... (http://docs.blackberry.com/en/developers/deliverables/23674/Debug_packages_Mac_1427781_11.jsp) and hence cannot grasp why it is not debugging onto the device.

My code is as below:

/**
 * HelloWorld.java
 *
 * Copyright © 1998-2011 Research In Motion Ltd.
 *
 * Note: For the sake of simplicity, this sample application may not leverage
 * resource bundles and resource strings.  However, it is STRONGLY recommended
 * that application developers make use of the localization features available
 * within the BlackBerry development platform to ensure a seamless application
 * experience across a variety of languages and geographies.  For more information
 * on localizing your application, please refer to the BlackBerry Java Development
 * Environment Development Guide associated with this release.

package com.rim.samples.device.helloworlddemo;

import net.rim.device.api.ui.UiApplication;
import net.rim.device.api.ui.container.MainScreen;
import net.rim.device.api.ui.Field;
import net.rim.device.api.ui.component.Dialog;
import net.rim.device.api.ui.component.RichTextField;

/**
 * This class extends the UiApplication class, providing a
 * graphical user interface.
 */
public class HelloWorldDemo extends UiApplication
{
    /**
     * Entry point for application
     * @param args Command line arguments (not used)
     */
    public static void main(String[] args)
    {
        // Create a new instance of the application and make the currently
        // running thread the application's event dispatch thread.
        HelloWorldDemo theApp = new HelloWorldDemo();
        theApp.enterEventDispatcher();
    }

    /**
     * Creates a new HelloWorldDemo object
     */
    public HelloWorldDemo()
    {
        // Push a screen onto the UI stack for rendering.
        pushScreen(new HelloWorldScreen());
    }
}

/**
 * A class extending the MainScreen class, which provides default standard
 * behavior for BlackBerry GUI applications.
 */
final class HelloWorldScreen extends MainScreen
{
    /**
     * Creates a new HelloWorldScreen object
     */
    HelloWorldScreen()
    {
        // Set the displayed title of the screen
        setTitle("Hello World Demo");

        // Add a read only text field (RichTextField) to the screen.  The
        // RichTextField is focusable by default. Here we provide a style
        // parameter to make the field non-focusable.
        add(new RichTextField("Hello Olympics!", Field.NON_FOCUSABLE));
    }

    /**
     * Displays a dialog box to the user with the text "Goodbye!" when the
     * application is closed.
     *
     * @see net.rim.device.api.ui.Screen#close()
     */
    public void close()
    {
        // Display a farewell message before closing the application
        Dialog.alert("Goodbye!");
        super.close();
    }
}

I've cross checked several forum articles and BB KB articles regarding this issue and the common advice given is it's an error due to the lack of singning in keys for the app. I followed the instructions as per this link (http://docs.blackberry.com/en/developers/deliverables/23674/Install_new_code_sign_key_925821_11.jsp) and installed the code singing in keys i.e. RBT, RRT and RCR.

My development specs are as follows:

IDE: Eclipse

IDE Version: 3.6.2.r362_v20110210-9gF78Gs1FrIGnHDHWkEcopoN8AmxeZflGDGKQi

Build id: M20110210-1200

BlackBerry Java Plug-in for Eclipse
Version:  1.5.0.201112201607

Operating system: Mac OS X Lion 10.7.3

!!!!! PLEASE I'D BE VERY GREATFUL TO ANYONE WHO CAN HELP ME ON THIS ISSUE !!!!!

Thanks,

I always ignore this.

Just dismiss the dialog.

Re: PLEASE HELP - DEBBUGING SIMPLE APP ON A DEVICE I.E. BB BOLD 9780 ON MAC - THANKS IN ADVANCE

Hi RexDoug,

Thanks for your reply. I've ignored the dialog box severally to no success. Essentially it gets to 53% in the progress tab and throws the error. Quite frustrating !!

Is there a possible step I could be missing (possibly as its my first time with testing on a device.

My device settings are as follows:

Blackberry Bold 9780

6.0 bundle 2475 - v6.0.0546, platform 6.6.0207

Thanks in advance !!!

[ Edited ]

Are you compiling for OS 6.0? If you compile for 7.0 and load this on a 6.0 device, it will fail.

Re: PLEASE HELP - DEBBUGING SIMPLE APP ON A DEVICE I.E. BB BOLD 9780 ON MAC - THANKS IN ADVANCE

HI RexDoug,

I truly appreciate your reply.

I guess it means I've got to upgrade the device's OS to 7.0 or change Eclipse JRE I'm utilising which in my Eclipse is BB JRE 7.0.0.

If the solution is the latter option, how can I do so in Eclipse.

As always I really appreciate your assistance.
Thanks.
