I am certainly not aware of one either.
In general, programmatic BBM communication is only possible to other users of your application - everything else has to go through a BBM prompt screen, and the user decides who is the target. Do you think you can do what you want to individual users?

Not sure that you are telling us anything new here. As noted, the API does not, at least when I last looked, document a method to work with Groups, so I'm sorry I don't think you will have access to BBM groups from your application.
And as I was trying to say earlier, I would check to confirm you can do what you want with individual users. If you can do it for individual users, then tell us what you are doing and which APIs you are using, this will help determine if we can find a way to do it for groups.
You could of course create your own groups within your application.
Edit: I was creating this message when the OP posted the message above, which is why it does not appear to follow.

I suspected you were using Send Menu, There is nothing similar in early OS's, nor any easy way for you to create a similar option.
You might find that if your code includes Send menu that it will not work on OS 5 and 6, in which case you will have to have a build with and a build with out Send Menu, and target the build with Send Menu to OS 7 and above devices only.
I am not aware of any way to provide functionality like Send Menu for earlier OS's.
