Push notification question

[ Edited ]

I've tried to look for the answers but haven't gotten a straight answer.

1. Does a BB device need BIS-B to use blackberry Push Essentials service? Can a BB device without BIS-B work with push notifications?

2.  Does Push Essentials have subscription features and ability to query a push message status?

Re: Push notification question

I am not sure about the naming system, i think "essentials" means BIS-B push, and yes, your device has to be BIS-B connected for that.
There is also BES push, but usually BES-connected devices also have a BIS connection.

To query the status of push messages you need "push plus", which is free for a limited usage (it has a free and also paid tiers).

for details see https://developer.blackberry.com/services/push/ and the linked pdf documents.

What is TCPPushInputStream for?

So, the user needs to have a data plan on the device to have BIS-B enabled?

Re: Push notification question

BIS-B is usually called "the blackberry option" and is available in addition to the data plan (or already included), depends on the provider of course.
