Read Smartcard connected to smartcard reader over USB

Dear Friends,

I am trying to build application to read the data from the smartcard which resides in smartcard reader. which is connected to blackberry device via USB cable. I am stuck at initial stage itself.  your help ll be appreciated . My doubts

  • Why is the smartcard reader is not getting detected automatically when it is connected to BB device?
  • what needs to be done to detect the smartcard reader?
Thanks in advance Smiley Happy

Re: Read Smartcard connected to smartcard reader over USB

BlackBerry does not support host-side USB (I think that's the phrase). Basically it cannot act like a computer, thus you can't hook up a smartcard reader and have it simply appear as an extra media card.

I'm not really sure, the only thing I know that can work off the USB is GPS receivers but they might have a different mechanism to run.
