Signing Server - Scheduled Downtime for Upgrades

On Friday November 5, 2010 the RIM Signing Servers were unavailable from approximately 9:30 AM EDT to 3:30 PM EDT, and we are aware that as a result of this existing developers were not able to sign their applications, and new developers were not able to receive signing keys.

The signing servers  are now back online, however you may still experience intermittent unavailability.  To help improve reliability, RIM is planning a hardware update of the signing servers, which will be implemented on Monday, November 8th at 7 PM EST. This update is expected to take approximately 6hrs and the signing servers will be offline during this time.  Please plan any builds around this update window. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience in this matter.

Re: Signing Server - Scheduled Downtime for Upgrades

Hi Mark,

Could you inform what error message is for this kind of maintenance.

I tried to sign my code using our signature, but I have 'Unable to perform code signing operation for the client because they have no signing attempts left." I tried this 3 times last friday and twice today, but having the same result.

I don't think this is the correct state for my signing key. Is it because of the maintenance or something else?

Re: Signing Server - Scheduled Downtime for Upgrades

The errors you get will vary during the maintenance.  The most common will be errors connecting to proxy.  You may also get some connection refused messages.

Re: Signing Server - Scheduled Downtime for Upgrades

Am I the only one that thinks to himself

"Is there only 1 set of servers?" to support all of the developers?

Load Balancing?

Virtual Server Pool?

Is there not a "Redundant set" of servers that could service developers until

the upgrade is complete and new servers brought online?

Nope. I'm there with you but maybe that's what they're doing?

Who knows.

Re: Signing Server - Scheduled Downtime for Upgrades

They should really change the error message from “Error connecting to web signer from proxy” to something helpful like "The code signing servers are having scheduled maintenance from 7pm EST to 3am EST".  Then I wouldn't have wasted 30 minutes investigating the problem.

Re: Signing Server - Scheduled Downtime for Upgrades

There is a pool of servers, but all were upgraded with new hardware and new software.

Upgrades are now complete! Happy Signing! Smiley Happy
