I had set the Content-Length header on the Java test app, but commented that line of code since it didn't change the result.


I tested it again, by setting the Content-Length header as you've shown above, but I cannot upload the document over HTTPS. Did you try to upload the document twice (without closing the app?).



The WebWorks test app set the Content-Length header in Ajax.js

One more thing, the "official app" set the content-length header in:  http://blackberry.trac.wordpress.org/browser/trunk/src/org/kxmlrpc/XmlRpcClient.java#L175
