you cannot "remove" GPL from something. if a software is published under GPL every other software which reuses even a part of it has to be/become GPL as well.
the compiled library is LGPL, this means you can use it in commercial projects if you don't alter it, include the license etc
if you want to take the ideas from the classes and re-implement it yourself: feel free to do so.

Hey lynxgeek, quick question. Since TwitterConnect has a logout function, is there any reason why you haven't implemented anything for it in TwitterConnectImpl. In other words, is there any way you can give us an example as to how to logout a user?

yes. i have switched to another connection code (the one from the twitter-me project is buggy as i said before), maybe you can use peters example instead.
i replaced the open source licensed files with similar self-written ones.
works like a charm, if only facebook would support xauth, too. it's so much easier than oauth

Indeed xAuth is so much easier. But it seems Twitter does not like so much to provide xAuth rights to applications, because of a lack of security.
Instead of hoping Facebook to provide xAuth we should ask RIM to publish an oAuth SDK for different social networks. Does anybody had sucess with oAuth for Twitter?
