Unconnected sockets not implemented

This article applies to the following:


  • BlackBerry® Java® Plug-in for Eclipse®
  • Java® Runtime Environment (JRE™) 1.6



When you install the BlackBerry Plug-In for Eclipse, you receive the following error:

Unconnected sockets not implemented


This error occurs in JRE 1.6 and JRE updates 11 and 12.




Update to JRE 1.6 update 14 or higher.




To work around this issue, complete the following steps:

  1. Remove the existing BlackBerry Update Site from your Eclipse® configuration and then close Eclipse.
  2. Delete the contents in the Windows\Temp folder.
  3. Download and install JRE 1.5.
  4. Modify the PATH and JAVA_HOME variables to reflect the JRE 1.5 version.
  5. Open Eclipse , and then re-add the BlackBerry Update Site with the address http://www.BlackBerry.com/go/EclipseUpdate
  6. Select the available updates for the installation.
  7. When prompted, type your user name and password.
  8. Complete the installation.
  9. Close Eclipse.
  10. Modify the PATH and JAVA_HOME variables to revert back to JRE 1.6.
