Use of GPRS signal on BB handhelds

We are running BES 4.1.6 MR8.

Some of our staff are delivery drivers and other mobile types who have BB devices. We have some develepers who are working with a vendor on an application that can use the GPRS signal of the BB's to pinpoint where they are so we can see where the drivers are on a map in case we need to make an emergency pickup.

Question is - does the BB device automatically generate a GPRS signal that anyone/ any application can hook into?

Secondly, do we need to do anything to generate this GPRS signal?

Finally, if we do need to do something to generate this signal, is this something that would eat up the life of the handheld?

Any help appreciated guys!

Re: Use of GPRS signal on BB handhelds

Do you mean GPS or GPRS?

Is the location being doen with satelittes or mobile towers?
