What BlackBerry device software version are you testing on?  You can find this under Options, About on the BlackBerry Smartphone.

Where are you saving the video to (which filesystem)?  Are any errors or exceptions thrown?  If so, what are they?  What line of code is it hanging on?  Are you able to hold down the menu key and task switch out of the sample application?

Re: Video recording is not working on Storm2

Hello everybody:

I'm having the same problem, and I've seen part of the cause, but I dont know the solution. I've been able to consistently reproduce it on the following devices:

  • BlackBerry Bold 9700: v5.0.0.743 (Bundle 1254, Platform 5.1.0.165)
  • BlackBerry Bold 9000: v5.0.0.1036 (Platform 5.2.0.93)
I've done some tests, with both an application of mine and the VideoRecordingDemo from the JDE 5.0.0. In each case, the device freezes on record commit. The problem reproduces if I issue a:
recordControl.setRecordLocation("file:///store/home/user/videos/test.3gp");

 or

recordControl.setRecordLocation("file:///SDCard/BlackBerry/videos/test.3gp");

But if I use setRecordStream() it records fine, but uses RIMM streaming format.

If I set a player listener using addPlayerListener, I receive the following error:

d VRD - Player -166451890 got event closed: null - 3/10 20:04:27
d VRD - Player -166451890 got event stopped: -1 - 3/10 20:04:26
d VRD - Player -166451890 got event recordError: Could not start recording: recording location may be encrypted - 3/10 20:03:07
d VRD - Player -166451890 got event recordStarted: 0 - 3/10 20:03:06

So, I think that this is the problem, but I don't know the solution. Any idea?

Thanks in advance!

Xavi

Re: Video recording is not working on Storm2

Have these uses enabled content protection and encryption of their micro SD cards?  Are you able to reproduce this using the BlackBerry Smartphone simulator or just a real device?  Does it occur on multiple devices (of the same model/version)?

Security options -> Encryption is disabled for everything. I've tested it on two different BlackBerry devices, but I have not tested on simulator. I'll try it later. The devices are:

  • BlackBerry Bold 9700: v5.0.0.743 (Bundle 1254, Platform 5.1.0.165)
  • BlackBerry Bold 9000: v5.0.0.1036 (Platform 5.2.0.93)

I don't have any more device currently at hand to test.

Thanks,

Xavi

Re: Video recording is not working on Storm2

I could was unable to make the simulator capture video due to driver problems with my webcam, and the simulator crashing when using an image to simulate camera input.

Re: Video recording is not working on Storm2

With another (older) webcam, without any driver problems, I was still unable to record video. The simulator crashed, even using builtin video recorder. Just taking still pictures it works fine, but crashes while trying to record video. Using BlackBerry 9550 Simulator from JDK 5.0.0:

Will be of your interest failure.zip file? I could send it via DM.

Re: Video recording is not working on Storm2

Hi Xavi,

I tested and reproduced this issue. It has been previously escalated to development but the fix has not yet been implemented. For the time the workaround would be to record to stream instead of directly to file.

Re: Video recording is not working on Storm2

Hi Garett:

Thanks for your reply.

We're trying to record the file using a 3GPP container (.3gp file) but if we try to use this workaround, the resulting file format is RIMM Streaming File. Is there a way to use this workaround but get a 3GPP file? Are we missing something?

Re: Video recording is not working on Storm2

Hi Xavi,

I have escalated to our development team for further investigation. The best way to stay informed of changes and updates would be to log this issue in the Developer Issue Tracker (linked in my signature) and respond back on thread with the URL. I will link it with the internal tracking system and provide updates and information as it becomes available.

Regards,

Garett
