Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection questions

Ok I did some reasearch on private network connections and I have few questions:

  • Is it true that a connection to a vpn is only possible through a wi-fi transport(I want to connect to a non-bes network)?
  • AFAIK you can connect to a vpn only if you setup a vpn account manually through the phone options menus. Is there any way to programatically create the connection without having to create the profile manually?
  • Can this connection be made through a proxy server?
  • Any articles or sample code will be really highly appreciated Smiley Happy
My whole idea is to make a connection to a private network and do the dirty work behind the scenes assuming that I have the information I need to log into the vpn.

Re: Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection questions

I don't believe there's anyway to programmatically connect to a vpn without the use of the BES network.#

I'd love to be corrected by someone here tho!

Re: Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection questions

Do you mean that all requests to virtual private networks have to pass through the blackberry enetprise server first?

I believe that you shoul be able to connect to a vpn without using the bb servers.

Anyone?

Re: Virtual Private Network (VPN) connection questions

BlackBerry Smartphones do have built in support to connect through a VPN using WiFi.  Other transport routes are not supported out of the box for this.

There is no way to programmatically configure a VPN.  VPNs can be configured on a BlackBerry Enterprise Server and pushed out to users.

A BlackBerry Enterprise Server is able to connect through a proxy server.  The BlackBerry Java API set doesn't include APIs for handling proxy communication.
