What is – Best practices in working with ApplicationPermissions API

by Retired on ‎11-05-2010 01:56 PM - edited on ‎12-09-2010 09:38 AM by BlackBerry Development Advisor (2,613 Views)

Summary:

This article applies to the following:

  • BlackBerry® Enterprise Server
  • BlackBerry® Device Software versions 4.2.1+
  • BlackBerry® Java® Development Environment 4.2.1+

Description:

When working with the net.rim.device.api.applicationcontrol.ApplicationPermissions API, your application should use the ApplicationPermissionsManager.getMaxAllowable(int permission) API to determine what permissions your application can request and if the permissions your application requires can be set to Prompt or Allow. If any required permissions for your application are enforced by IT Policy to Deny, then your application should inform the user and exit. Otherwise, your application should be able to continue with a request to get permissions to the higher of Prompt or Allow.

Additionally, if the required permissions are at least set to Prompt and cannot be set higher due to BES application control policy then the entire application permissions invocation should be avoided using  ApplicationPermissions.difference(ApplicationPermissions).
