When do i use Connector.open("comm:com1....?

I read the doc of JDE, found that in javax.microedition.io.Connector class there have many open parameters. I'm confused about the protocol comm. In this protocol, currently the only port identifiers supported are COM1 and USB. In which case could I use COM1?
I don't find com port in the blackberry, is it a vitual com port or in some cases the device has real com port?

By the way, I want to communicate to device which has only com port, How could i do that?

BlackBerry handhelds have either a USB port or serial port.  This means your application can communicate over USB or serial port based on the BlackBerry model.

All current BlackBerry models have USB ports.

You could use a Bluetooth adapter on the (non BlackBerry) serial port device and communicate using a Bluetooth serial port profile connection.
