NFC and FourSquare checkin anecdote- not a question

[ Edited ]

I had a look at the Foursquare API page, here, and in that writing, looked pretty complicated for BB.

However, I did just try to create an NFC tag for a local venue. I used NFCToolLite, and simply wrote an URI:

http://m.foursquare.com/venue/Venue-code-it's-really-quite-long-wishIhadQ10Smiley Happy

Anyway, it was an http:// URI, which with Androids I tested, went to the brower, foursqure site.

On the Dev Alpha B, it launched the Foursquare app. Awesome I says.

The ability to write very simple http: based URI's to tags to launch into applications seems to be really easy and I'm glad it's there. Wanted to share, and if there's ways like this instead of super coding I'd be glad to hear more of the system or more integration with our apps.

It was another example of showing off NFC to a group, and everyone loving the novel thrill of it, it's such a fun technology Smiley Happy

PS, I did find that NFCtool Light was nice enough to tell me a certain 64k tag wasn't enough space, (error using NFCtool). Wondering how 64k wouldn't be big enough for a webaddress. Maybe a formatting thing?

that works great, it pops the venue up in the Foursquare application... is it possible to automate the actual check-in as well?

No, there is no way to automate the check-in.

Also that link to the BlackBerry process is out of date and doesn't apply for BB10. The previous part about URI's and Android intents is similar to what you will need to do in your bar-descriptor.xml for BB10 if you are building a connected app.
