Query App World for Update

Hey guys,

This may be an ignorant question but I cannot find any information on it.

On the launch of my app, I need to check to see if an update is available from app world. Is there some way to query appworld itself to see if there is an update needed, or at least to check the app version in the appworld?

There is not way to query App World.  Only way is to have the latest version stored on  a server somewhere and then check that against the app version to see if there is an update available.  When you place an update on App World (and wait at least 36 hours for it to filter out) then you can change the version number in the file on the server.

I don't know if an API exists or not, but as a last resort you could always make your own http request to the product page for your app (i.e. http://appworld.blackberry.com/webstore/content/12345678/) and webscrape the version from that

Following on the above (correct) responses, I wonder if you're aware that the system will do that automatically for users anyway, so maybe you don't even want to do that. The users will get a notification in the Hub, and at some point also the red/white "spark" or "splat" icon will appear on the BB World icon and within the app, to guide the user to the list of updates in the "My World" tab.
