Serious problem with 10.0.10.116 / 10.0.10.822 (native audio related?)

[ Edited ]

(I've also posted this to the Crackberry forums in hopes of getting some user feedback: http://forums.crackberry.com/blackberry-z10-f254/serious-problem-10-0-10-116-10-0-10-822-native-audi... )

I updated my LE Z10 to 10.0.10.116 / 10.0.10.822 on Friday through AT&T (officially, no leaked update or anything) and since then I've run into a serious problem. I'm experiencing it with games, and it appears to be audio related, though I can't be sure. I'm posting to see if anyone has the same issue.

Basically, some games lose all audio during play, and some games refuse to close properly after quitting them (you can see the icon is still dimmed). It also refused to quit when sending a SIGTERM through Momentics. Once this has happened, I can't open any other game, it stays on the splashscreen and then quits. The only solution is to restart the phone.

Games that have lost audio after a short period of time:
Jetpack Joyride
Super Hexagon

Games that have exhibited "won't close properly":
Pin Fall (my own game)

Until I saw it with Jetpack Joyride I was working under the assumption that there was a problem either with my own code or with the framework I use (Super Hexagon uses the same framework), but now I think it's a wider problem. So far the only thing I can assume these games have in common is that they all use streaming audio for music - obviously I can only say what my own code uses, and that's streaming an OGG through MMR.

Remains to be seen (in the middle of updating). Obviously I can only test my own games, but as it's not always 100% reproducible it might not be a good test anyway.

Re: Serious problem with 10.0.10.116 / 10.0.10.822 (native audio related?)

Hi there,

I am aware of at least one similar audio crash issue which has been fixed on the latest builds internally.   I will discuss this further with our audio engineering team and post an update.

A response on the Crackberry thread has suggested that this might actually be a problem with installing the update OTA. I'm going to attempt to reinstall the update through BlackBerry Link and see if it is fixed.

Re: Serious problem with 10.0.10.116 / 10.0.10.822 (native audio related?)

I have instaled the update vie BBLink last Friday and my phone started rebooting the moment the update finished. It now reboots 3-6 times a day, which is very anoying. It even freezes and reboots in the regular e-mail client with no other app open. Something does not seem to be right here. The phone had non of these issues with the previous version (.88). I do regret that I have updated and now there is no way back...

This issue should be addressed in the upcoming 10.1 update
