System icons?

These links discuss icon specs:

https://developer.blackberry.com/devzone/design/bb10/icon_types_and_sizes.html

https://developer.blackberry.com/devzone/design/bb10/metaphors.html

https://developer.blackberry.com/devzone/design/bb10/icon_building_blocks.html

And this link shows system/app icons for BB 6:

http://docs.blackberry.com/en/smartphone_users/deliverables/21204/

The question is, are there any BB 10 icons available (help, network connections, volume, etc) and how would developers access them in code?

Searching "System Icons" in the cascades documentation turns up a huge number of hits that don't seem to be related.

Re: System icons?

There are a handful on the latest Dev Alpha build, under /usr/share/icons or something (going by memory), but there is no official "icon set" for Cascades, and it seems very unlikely that one will be made available until after launch.

I was hoping for something like the iOS dump of the resources on the device.

I searched all through the folders that were installed on my computer and found only a few icons related to tools, not the BB itself.  Was there a different source directory you were referring to?

It will be a shame if I have to re-create some of the icons they have already in my custom controls.

Re: System icons?

I'm talking about /usr/share/icons on the device, not your computer. There is definitely not set outside of the device at this time.

You'll have to SSH into the Dev Alpha or (I suppose) the simulator to get to these files.

How would I go about doing that? Smiley Happy

if you are on windows use a tool like winscp and ftp to the simulator i/p with devuser/devuser (userid/pwd)

you can also use any other ftp program of course

then copy files from /usr/share/icons

Re: System icons?

from within momentics you can use the Target File System Navigator  (Window -> Show View -> ) and copy them off that way from the simulator/System/usr/share/icons directory

Re: System icons?

The other two responses have given you a start on SSH. Google or the forum search feature can certainly help with the other. The documentation for the Native SDK should also have stuff to guide you on that. It's not something one can explain in only a couple of sentences in a post here, I'm afraid, unless you're already expert in the use of SSH.

It all worked out on my Mac.  In case anyone wants the step by step:

Open Momentics IDE

From the top menu: Window->Show View->Target File System Navigator

Expand System/usr/share/

Right click 'icons,' select 'copy to'->File system

Select folder to paste to
