So is there really no way to take a screenshot programatically?
Even if the user gave permission when the app was intially installed? What is the point of asking on install then?
Is there a way around this or another permission to put in the xml file other than "use_camera_desktop"?

I'm a power user and would be really uncomfortable if this would be possible without a promt – even with a special permission…
These apps could just take screenshots without me knowing, even when running as a background app…welcome NSA…

I wrote the screenshot feature.
You are not allowed to bypass the screenshot prompt for security reasons.
You are free to screenshot your own app using the screen_read_window() API.
Also, for the record, the screenshot is captured before the prompt appears, so if it's timing you're concerned about, that's not an issue.
