The rules are hand-wavy, but in practice they are usable for caching across multiple invocations. (For the record, iOS also has an application tmp/ dir that DOES get wiped in the same manner as on the Playbook; they still found it sensible to have a separate caches directory that doesn't wipe automatically.)

 

I will stay out of the logs directory for now, as that sounds like it's asking for trouble.

This has been escalated internally.  I have made Dan's feature request in Issue Tracker public, so you can all monitor the status and/or vote on it.  https://www.blackberry.com/jira/browse/TABLET-646
