I finally got it back up and running.
I enabled virtualization in the BIOS and the siumlator seems to start up fine now.
(I was going to enable the virtualization anyway, but hadn't got around to it).
Maybe there is some timing issue at the startup of the SIM and without the virtualization active, it just is too slow and some window gets missed.
Anyway, back in business now. Thanks.

It does take much longer to start with virtualization disabled. On my laptop it took over 2 minutes to start with it off and about 15 seconds with it enabled.
