So the specs are out:
and it looks indeed z3 will have 540 x 960 resolution.
I know cascades with the QML Containers should scale to the right resolution but there are cases where fine grained precision is required which depends on app knowing what resolution it runs on.
In our apps we have several places where we need to adjust things depending on resolution.
Our question is how to test our apps on Z3 BEFORE users start downloading the apps potentially complaining about the UI not working properly?
I just checked the simulator and the version posted on developer site is from Dec 2013 which I assume does not have Z3 resolution.

I got an information that all what works for Z30 (half HD) will work on Z3 (qHD)
because the OS does the scaling
So nothing should be done for apps working on 720x1280

Thanks . So for example if I set MinWidth=100 for a control on a "regular" Q10 device with 720 horizontal resolution it will have actual 100 pixels width, but on a Z3 with 540 horizontal resoution the OS will automatically draw this container with a 75 pixel width without me needing to do anything??? If this is true then what will happen if I want to set control on a Z3 screen to be of exactly 100 pixels? Do i need to set the width to 133 then? This will be really confusing.

here's the answer: nothing to do for different resolution
only if you rely on sensors there's a difference:
no NFC, Magnetometer or Gyroscope sensor

This explains it then. As far as app is concered it does run on 720×1280 at all times and the actual resolution is not used anywhere. thanks!

Should we worry about creating assets for high and low resolution devices? I can imagine that the Z3 will have some performance hits for dealing with high resolution assets designed for the Z30. Also, the app download will be unnecessarily large since it could have 3x the number of assets for each resolution. Hardware fragmentation complexity issues on the rise ...
