dev alpha device in a useless state

After restoring my dev alpha device, and going through the setup, I now have the following situation:

on the home screen, there's just the browser window. Swiping down from the homescreen shows 5 options (Settings, Bluetooth, Silent Mode, Rotation Lock, and Wi-Fi). Touching Settings doesn't do anything (except for remove the pull-down menu). The settings icon doesn't have a gray box behind it, as do the other four icons. So, can't put the device in developer mode, and I'm basically stuck. Has anybody been here before?

Re: dev alpha device in a useless state

Turned out the device was bricked. Running the AutoLoader solved it.
