Re: BB10 Dev Alpha Device Driver - or how to restore the OS

Hi denis, thanks a lot for your post.

I installed the latest Desktop Manager by following your link (I'm on Mac OS Lion).

Then I did the following:

1) Set in Sharing & Storage - the connection to the platform you're using (windows/ mac)
2) Enable file Sharing
3) Enable Development mode (in security)

And I got the following error:

I clicked on "Repair" and the software downloaded the latest OS version (10.0.6.386) and installed it! Success!

Unfortunately, when I connect the device to my Mac I still get the error "Desktop Software cannot connect to his device" Smiley Sad Even if I activate again file sharing, developer mode, etc. I'm afraid it will prevent me from uploading the debug token to my device when I will develop for it. I may file a support ticket.

Re: BB10 Dev Alpha Device Driver - or how to restore the OS

New problem!  i update BB10 to Platform 10.0.6.385 which needs 7.1.0.32 Bundle 33, during the time i find it show "no update available", i restart device when connect USB with windows, then "update" -> "repair" -> then still "no update available". But my device is dead and only red LED flash several times. No matter how i hold the power button and reconnect, it is dead.   Who knows ...

You don't have to connect the device to your computer to be able to install debug tokens, apps and debug. You can also do this perfectly well over wifi. Just lookup the IP address of the device and use that as target.

Re: BB10 Dev Alpha Device Driver - or how to restore the OS

I'm also having the problem with my DevAlpha(already updated, but its messed up and now only has browser and setup app) not being detected by the Desktop Software. I've tried on both Mac & PC(yes I have the latest software).

Desktop manager does see the device but it says 'Disconnected'.

When I plug it in the DevAlpha says its looking for the required drivers, despite the fact that I already had everything set up and working, which aloud me to update the device in the first place.

Re: BB10 Dev Alpha Device Driver - or how to restore the OS

I have yet for a device with RIM to work as expected.  You should see all the problems I had moving data from one PB to another or the many other device problems I've had.  But thats beside the point...  lets focus on the alpha.

At the start, you will have failures saying USB Mass Storage Device errors.  I'm going to assume you are using Windows Vista/7 and have your Alpha plugged in.

Step 1:  Keep the alpha plugged in using the USB cable that came with it

Step 2:  Click on Start > Run > Device Manager

Step 3:  Expand USB

Step 4:  See if there is a yellow exclamation point beside a USB Mass Storage driver

Step 5:  If so, right click and select Uninstall

Step 6:  Unplug your alpha

Step 7:  Close desktop manager

You should now be at a clean state....

Step 8:  Install the driver package at the start of these posts.

Step 9:  Launch Desktop Manager

Step 10:  Wait for it to fully load

Step 11:  Connect your Alpha

It will start trying to install drivers.  It most likely will detect it as a phone and nothing else interesting will happen.

Step 12:  Hold the two volume buttons + power button down for about 10 seconds

Your Alpha should reboot

Step 13:  Watch Desktop Manager carefully.

You should soon as you see "Update/Retry/Cancel" right around when the BB10 alpha logo comes up

Step 14:  As soon as the options appear, press Update

Step 15:  Wait for the update to be recognized

Note:  If it detects no update, takes forever, and eventually your Alpha logs in - let it finish until it says no updates.  Your device will appear as Unknown.   Go back to Step 12.  Might take a few attempts

Step 16:  Eventually an update is detected, and you can start your update.

Based on the hard work of everyone above.

Cheers

[ Edited ]

@PhilipK: How did you get it connected. When I connect my device, Desktop Software is unable to detect it. It says Disconnected.
