Which version of the desktop software are you using? You need to be running the latest else it doesn't know what a dev alpha device is.
Had same problem till I updated BB Desktop manager. Also wait till all windows updates are finished installing yes.

Updated Desktop Manager and windows update finished. Now its not even recognizing the dev alpha, a sound goes off when i connect to the USB port but nothing pops up and in my computer there is no blackberry dev alpha storage option.

Try going into the dev alpha menu (little gear in top right corner). Go to storage & sharing. Set the USB connections to "Connect to Windows"
That may help, mines on auto and never given trouble. There's a first time for everything though.

YESSS!! you were pretty close, i had to click connect to windows and then enable file sharing. If I wasn't straight I'd kiss you right now. Blackberry's dev community is really helpful im definetly sticking to this platform, thanks man.

I'm running into the same issue, but on the device I get nothing when clicked on the Setting menu... When I run the WipeReload.bat I get no PIN so I cannot pursue the update...
The dude that had my Alpha device prior, ran a security wipe... So currently, the only app running is the browser... Any info on how to proceed with the reloading the OS ???
