Can't install simulator

Hello,

I am trying to install the BlackBerry 10 simulator. I have followed the directions shown on the BlackBerry developer's site:

Installed VMware Player. It opens and seems to be working.

I downloaded the BlackBerry10Simulator-Installer...exe.

When I run the installer exe the prograss bar goes all the way to 100%, but I then get a panel with the following message:

"Could not find a valid Java virtual machine to load.

You may need to reinstall a supported Java virtual machine."

I reinstalled the VMware player, but still have the same problem.

Can anyone help?

Re: Can't install simulator

VMWare Player and JVM are not the same thing.  You'll need to install a JDK downloaded from here too.  http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/index.html

Re: Can't install simulator

I have encountered this problem on Windows 10 and have been unable to solve the installer failure.

I had the installation directory from a previous Windows 8.1 system and was able to confirm the following significant issues that were preventing the simulator from working :

- installing JDK is necessary, as mentioned above.
- VMWare Player must be version 6
- Hyper-V must be disabled (can be done as a bcdedit option)

Unfortunately, the simulator installer still goes to 100% then fails with "Windows Error 2 could not load Java VM".

When I try the LAX_VM option suggested by some search results on the errors, I do see a more detailed list of errors referring to "lax"

"Flexeraawy$aaa: Windows DLL failed to load"

Re: Can't install simulator

These errors pertain to the Java environment setup, they aren't unique to Windows 10.  Here are a few things to check:

  • Ensure you have the 32 bit Java installed (64 bit can cause these installer issues).
  • Verify that JAVA_HOME is pointing to a 32 bit JVM installation.
  • Have a look at your PATH environment variable and make sure the first path entry to java.exe points to the same version of Java as your JAVA_HOME environment variable.  Not this path should include the \bin folder within your Java installation directory (i.e. JAVA_HOME\bin).
