Not sure if this is posted elsewhere, but RIM are aware of the problems and are working on a solution.
This was confirmed during this afternoons Cascades web cast where RIM staff answered questions on the topic.

I then proceeded to go to another PC, I installed DM 18.104.22.168 Bundle 33 from the Beta Zone. I rebooted the machine, opened DM, connected Dev Alpha, said no to the 'Get Started', and it found the update right away. Updated successfully, ...
This roughly mirrors what @xsacha did, though all on one machine. Had the same issue, uninstalled DM and "downgraded" to the identically versioned DM from beta zone. Ran DM again and it immediately showed there was an update available. (Many others who have tried the same and numerous variations have not had similar luck, however.)
