Mine found the update, but when i click on update and it goes into the page where it says "Please wait while your Blackberry Device Software is updated" it pop out a dialogue box saying
"An error has occured while downloading software for your device. Please verify your Internet Connection or try again later, if the problem persists."
Navigated to the registry and can't find those two keys the solution talked about, and also changed to file transfer mode and changed to connect to windows but no avail.
Also changed to another internet connection it says the same thing as well.
Using Windows 7 64 bit, location Malaysia and Blackberry DM version 188.8.131.52

I had the same problem. It always got stuck around module 24 or 28 and then I got the same error as you did.
Afterward it starts at 0 again .. you wait for half an hour to get up to 20+ only to get the same error. What puzzles me .. apart from that error .. is that the modules do not seem to be cached.
I finally ended up using the desktop software on a mac. There it works with no issues.

Finally tried to reboot after installing the OS, but has been stuck on the boot screen for around 20 hours now. I think I am going to have to try again...

It took me several (four or five) attempts to repair the OS before the final modules were installed.
On two or three occasions nothing was updated, but on two of the attempts additional modules were installed. Not sure if the delay between attempts was important.
On the unsuccessful occasions the splash screen would be displayed but nothing else. I think if it's displayed for 30 minutes you might as well reboot and try to repair again.
All this stuff is somewhere back in this ridiculously long thread somewhere. Pity we hadn't started separate threads for each issue.

Good point on the fact that some solutions are burried within this long thead. I've modified the original post to contain solutions for the common problems that were reported.
