Error 503 when sending messages from an email client to the Email Server Simulator

Summary


This article applies to the following:

  • BlackBerry® Java™ Development Environment (JDE)
  • BlackBerry Email Server Simulator


Problem


When sending messages from an email client to the Email Server Simulator, you receive Error 503.


Cause


Norton Antivirus™ is set to scan outgoing messages.


Resolution


Disable the scanning of outgoing messages in Norton Antivirus:

  1. Close any open email programs.
  2. Start Norton AntiVirus.

    If Norton AntiVirus is installed as part of Norton Internet Security or Norton SystemWork:

    • Click Start > Programs > Norton Internet Security or Norton SystemWorks > Norton AntiVirus. (If an additional small menu appears when you click Norton AntiVirus, click the Norton AntiVirus menu item on that menu).
    • If you only have Norton AntiVirus installed:

    • Click Start > Programs > Norton AntiVirus. (If an additional small menu appears when you click Norton AntiVirus, click the Norton AntiVirus menu item on that menu).
  3. After the program opens, click Options. (If an additional small menu appears when you click Options, click the Norton AntiVirus menu item on that menu.)
  4. On the left side, under the Internet heading, click Email. (On some computers you may have to double-click it.)
  5. On the right side, under the What to scan section, clear the Scan outgoing Email check box.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Close Norton AntiVirus.
