Testing IP address (Ping fail)

I want to develop a client server app on the Playbook.

First thing I'm trying is to ping the Playbook from my desktop and vice versa.

The Playbook seems to be able to ping the desktop.  When I try to ping my Playbook from my desktop (Win7) it fails.

I use the IP address found on the Playbook under Wifi settings.

Does any one know what I'm doing wrong?  I've looked around and haven't seen anything on this board or Google that addresses this issue.

Thanks.

The PlayBook doesn't respond to pings.  So you're seeing the expected behaviour.

If you want to test network connectivity you can enabile WiFi file sharing in the PlayBook and access it similar to a network drive (\\ip_address in Windows Explore, not IE).

Re: Testing IP address (Ping fail)

Thanks for responding, Mark.

I meant to update this with my progress yesterday.

In the settings for my router was a check box for isolation which doesn't allow anyone to see the devices on the wifi.  Unchecking it now allows me to ping the devices.

I'm not sure what Mark is referring to since I can now ping the Playbook as well as my laptop and iPod touch.

On to tackle sockets!

Re: Testing IP address (Ping fail)

Interesting, in my experience it never did.  Maybe I have a similar option setup.  Smiley Happy

"Just a fyi: I can also ping to my Playbook"

Oh good.  It's not just my imagination.  Smiley Happy

I have noticed that though I can ping my desktop from the playbook when the destop is not connected to the wifi router, I can't do it the other way around.  Only when I connect the desktop to the router can I do it.

If anyone knows anything about that, I would find it interesting.

Anyway, not going to worry about it right now.
