3G or WI-Fi Application

Hello,

I have a little difficulty to understand how blackberry works for internet connection with our application.

My application consumes a webservice but it only works if there's a simcard on it and uses the 3g connection.

I turn on only the wi-fi connection and things dont works. I get APN error (when not configured) or invalid tunnel (when apn is configured). But obviously it won't work because i'm on wi-fi! it shouldn't use the APN configuration to communicate with the world! =/

So, what's happening?

if you develop webworks application for Smartphone, try to using this configuration in your config.xml file:

<rim:connection timeout="60">
<id>TCP_WIFI</id>
<id>BIS-B</id>
<id>MDS</id>
<id>TCP_CELLULAR</id>
</rim:connection>

 Hope this will work.

Re: 3G or WI-Fi Application

I realized that in the config.xml there's a "connection" option, where you can override the default configurations...
I didn't saw that before... Little shame here Smiley Sad

Anyway, the error "Tunnel Invalid" persists. I belive that the application is trying to use the APN still...

Re: 3G or WI-Fi Application

agungeddy,

The think is:

Why wi-fi try to use the APN ? That's why it's getting the "Tunnel failed". Because, if i put the 3g as priority than wi-fi, it works, because the APN is configured for the 3G.
Wi-fi shouldn't use the apn
=/
