Well, I have 4 versions of WebWorks SDKs on my system, and I am unsure what is the best practice to update to the latest version.
Always uninstall first?

Definitely, the fast-paced development of BB10 is producing a lot of SDKs for us to work with.
To clean things up on Windows, select the Start Menu button and go to Control Panel and select Programs and Features.
This will display all of your installed software.
Go to the BlackBerry section. You will see the SDK and the date of its installation.
You can run the uninstall/change command by right-clicking on the item you want to alter.
If after running this process, you see some files still in the folder, you can delete them manually.

I usually uninstall them after I get the new one working.
They install next to each, so there is no need to overwrite.

Its difficult to say. I for one like to uninstall and keep the latest. Keeping my pc clean.
Unfortunately RIM has let me down recently with Ripple. The latest version being terrible and buggy. Yes they are beta, but then there is no non-beta download. I updated to the latest version and broke my development. So it's probably good to keep at least one older version installed OR uninstall it but keep the install files in case.
