Re: BlackBerry HTML5/WebWorks Experience Review - your feedback welcome

1. Some doc not so helpful or clear to solve an issue

this is a useless answer "Check the network connection to your computer." when i met "Server is not responding"

1st,  my network works fine, 2nd i use a valid proxy

The real problem is the tool like blackberry-signer requires the -proxyHost & -proxyPort as the first two command line parameters!

When I decompile the java tools' class file, It was found that some of these dev tools cause mass of troubles to developers like me. BTW: the batchbar-signer DOES NOT supports proxy parameter!  -- who knows this specified requirement? Not mentioned anywhere :-(

2. It difficult to find out what's wrong with an webworks native extension .so

Wish a detail log could be fetch from telnet or something, telling what's missing or what's fault!

A dump or detail log would be helpful.

These 2 problems may lead to my giving up bb10 app development.

Re: BlackBerry HTML5/WebWorks Experience Review - your feedback welcome

I develop for both the Playbook and BB10 (as well as iOS). I am using BBUI.js to get the common BB10 UI elements within WebWorks.

The issue I have developing using WebWorks for BB10 is that it is a moving target that is leaving a trail of out dated documentations in its wake. There are conflicting information being shown which just confuse developers.

For example, BlackBerry 10 Service Integration components (needed for Built for BlackBerry cert), have items which looks like it wouldn't even work with BB10:

Let's pick Payment Service:

Which has WebWorks SDK when clicked on show this page:

Which on the View Supported Platform Table show... that it isn't supported? Huh?

So am I assume that Payment Service would only work on BlackBerry Native SDK and BB10 SDK for Adobe Air only? Why put in Webworks when it doesn't work with it?

It talks about Analytics Service:

When looking into that it looks like it is for the smartphone and not BB10 (the SDK is from back in 2011).

The chaotic state of developer resource is not encouraging.

I looked at what Windows 8 have for their development environment. They have a completed 1.0 version of the UI elements for their Javascript + HTML5  framework which is fully integrated with their SDK. Their content is up to date with preview reference materials marked and updated when released.

Now I found out that we will need to resubmit our BB10 apps because of changes coming in November for apps made with Webworks.

If RIM didn't treat their developers so great, I would have given up on the platform a while ago. </RANT>
