How do I test whether the Blackberry emulator is correctly running on my PC?

How do I test whether the Blackberry emulator is correctly running on my PC?

I have downloaded and installed the following:

1. BlackBerry Smartphone Simulators 4.7.1
    +-- (9630)
2. Java 6 SDK [jdk-6u16-nb-6_7_1-windows-ml.exe]
3. BlackBerry Email and MDS Services Simulators 4.1.2

They are listed in the order I installed them.

I wish to use the emulator to browse the web but I can't figure out how to install it (nor whether it is configured or installed correctly).

After running the MDS followed by the 9630 the blackberry window appears. When I open a url I get:

Unable to connect to the mobile data service, please try again later.

I guess that's the same error message no matter what the problem is.
PS: Maybe the answer to this should be a stick post at the top of this forum?
