Is there a "BlackBerry UI" CSS/JS framework for BB's - Similar to IUI for the iPhone

Hosted over on Google Code http://code.google.com/p/iui/ there is a great open source library for providing a "standard" iPhone UI for web applications.

Does something similar exist for BlackBerry?  If not does anyone want to help collaborate with me to create one?

Cheers,

Steve

Re: Is there a "BlackBerry UI" CSS/JS framework for BB's - Similar to IUI for the iPhone

hello,

I guess the "corporate" or "branding" thing that Apple distributes with its applications has been ported to iPhone websites...
it gives a global recognizable visual identity for Apple products.

there are no such things in the BlackBerry world : there are many themes available, and websites are rarely designed for BlackBerry devices, so I do not really understand what you are trying to achieve. Should anyone try and do that (it's a bad mimic of Apple world in my opinion), it should be RIM employees. And seeing how "not beautiful" the http://mobile.blackberry.com/ website is, I guess they are not going to do much for "visual identity".

On the other hand, you can try and create templates for websites so that they look like the BOLD OS or like the AppWorld application screens.

Hi Steve,

I am searching for the same thing and was wondering whether you have done something in that direction. Smiley Indifferent . If not, I am willing to collaborate.

Re: Is there a "BlackBerry UI" CSS/JS framework for BB's - Similar to IUI for the iPhone

We are very interested to hear from the community on what exactly they would like to see in a "bUI" for BlackBerry smartphones.

i.e. a JavaScript and CSS library to provide:

- BlackBerry look and feel

- Data Binding

- Curved corners etc.

- DOM utilities

- Handle idiosyncrasies between browser versions

We can see this becoming more prevalent especially now with BlackBerry Widgets where developers want to build applications that look just like the native applications on a BlackBerry.

Any feedback you could provide would be greatly appreciated Smiley Happy

I came across this while searching the other day, it seems as though they are developing a library of BB icons and styles similar to what you are asking about.

Re: Is there a "BlackBerry UI" CSS/JS framework for BB's - Similar to IUI for the iPhone

if the HTML form elements that display in the blackberry widget environment do not look the same as user input form elements  in a native application then it would certainly be useful to have a style sheet that developers could use as a starting point to style these types of application ui items.  Lists in a widget also are probably an application item that could be styled to be similar to native application lists, assuming there is a typical "blackberry" appearance for a list.

I guess it depends upon whether developer see a need to model their interface on the blackberry os screens in some way.

I agree 100%, a default stylesheet would be a great start for most developers.

iUI supports theme.

See http://remi-grumeau.com/labs/iui/ , "theme switcher"

I've made a Blackberry theme for iUI last month. Since it's for a client, i can't release it but with a few device detections and server-side code, our impl of iUI works on both OS5 & OS6.
