OS 10.0 HTML5 scorecard by Sencha

[ Edited ]

Sencha, who produces the HTML5 SDK called Sencha touch, regularly tests mobile browsers in order to better understand how to write HTML5 apps for today's mobile platforms.

They've tested the browser on OS and here is a summary of their findings.

The good things:

  • the default timer resolution is now 4ms and that is awesome (finally!)
  • support for requestAnimationFrame for smooth animations
  • solid WebGL performance
  • a terrific getUserMedia implementation for video capture
  • solid 4 simultaneous touches support
  • fantastic implementation of position: fixed, and overflow scrolling

and the not so good things:

  • IndexedDB support is incomplete/unstable
  • Some problems with HTML5 form inputs
  • browser crashes under certain circumstances (still in
  • Canvas' performance could be better
  • Still doesn't know how to make an espresso and bring it to you

Check out their blog post:

Thanks for posting!

Yes, we're pleased with the upgrades that Sencha has made to their Touch framework.  In fact, they have been working very closely with the BlackBerry browser development team over the past few months. As a result of this collaboration, not only have they been able to tune Sencha Touch for BlackBerry 10, but also help us identify some edge cases for performance improvements in the core Web platform. Developers are the ultimate winners here!

We should get a bug report filed for that espresso ...
