it centers the image when in landscape and auto. not in portrait.
here is orientation in xml
<rim:orientation mode="portrait" />
and the image for portrait is 600 wide x 1024 high

I did create the image with portrait dimensions 600Wx1024H it pushed it to the side rather than centering it.
I decided to release the pending Playbook App update build without the screen orientation locked on portrait. Users can do that on device.
what started it was this screen I developed for navigation

WebWorks for Tablet OS does not allow developers to define a portrait and landscape version of its background image. You have to choose one and it will try to scale properly. As you’ve seen, it does not ‘scale’ a landscape image to portrait. This is expected behavior for the current Tablet OS. This is very different on BlackBerry 10 which has a far more robust rim:splash element.
