Protocol error when trying to send mail from Blackberry Bold device



I am developing a web application for Blackberry Bold device. This has a Send mail feature.

While testing this application on pc setting a user-agent to Blackberry, Clicking on a send button will open a outlook new mail window and it is working fine.


But the same functionality is not working on blackberry bold device.

Clicking on send button gives popup saying "The protocol specified is not supported by the handheld. please try a diffrent url ".


To send mail from a third party web application, Is there  any setting required on Blackberry device to.


Any help will be highly appreciated.

This problem is caused by an issue with the BlackBerry device software that is triggered if the mailto URL does not contain an email address.


The work around is to specify an email address in the mailto link.


This issue has been fixed in BlackBerry device software version 5.0.
