Push method - Setup Environment

Hi,

I am new to the BB development method.

I am interesting in push methods.

How can I setup my environment in order to simulate some push example?

Which developer tools I need to install?

Can you tell me if there exist any tutorial (step by step) in order to develop my first push application?

I am interesting in both browser and java application.

Thank!

Re: Push method - Setup Environment

The 2 tools you will need are the BlackBerry Simulator and MDS Simulator.  However, I recommend you download the BlackBerry JDE, which includes both of these items and sample push applications.  You can download it here:  http://na.blackberry.com/eng/developers/javaappdev/javadevenv.jsp

Once installed, you'll find the push samples (and documentation on using them) in the following locations:

Browser Push Sample

C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry JDE 4.#.#\samples\com\rim\samples\server\browserpushdemo

Client Server Push sample:

(Server Side)

C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry JDE 4.#.#\samples\com\rim\samples\server\httppushdemo

(Device side and instructions)

C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry JDE 4.#.#\samples\com\rim\samples\device\httppushdemo

Mark,

If, the BES server url is https instead of http, then do i have to change something in my client or server code for push ?

Re: Push method - Setup Environment

Possibly.  This can vary based on the language used to create the push application as well as the type of certificate used.  Are you running into a specific problem?
