Send Email Message

I've got an option in my menu(bb key) that says 'Send Feedback'. I'd like for users to send me a mail using the messaging application when they click this option.

On clicking, it should open the messaging application with the mail subject as 'App Feedback', address it to 'feedback@app.com' and the body should include the users OSver eg. 9900/7.0.0.503

Is this possible?

Re: Send Email Message

Just to point out, I'd like the users to be able to draft the rest of the body to me & then send the mail.

Re: Send Email Message

This is very simple because WebWorks has a method called blackberry.message.Message. There you can get all the awesome documentation about how to send emails (with real world examples).

About sending a copy to yourself you can just add yourself to the Cc, or if the email that sould go to you has to be different just create two method calls and send 2 individual emails.

Re: Send Email Message

Hi Nathan

I did check the documentation. However, the example sends the mail out. I need to invoke the native mail client with the to, subject & body fields pre-populated and allow the user to actually send the mail.

Re: Send Email Message

So you want the user to actually see the information that they are submitting to you?

That's simple too. Just create a screen on your app with the To, Subject and Body fields on it, pre-populate the information and add a button to send the email, so the user will feel like actually using the mail client.

Re: Send Email Message

Yes but is it possible to invoke the native mail client instead? Like a mailto: link would with a website?

Re: Send Email Message

Are you referring to the Smartphone SDK or Tablet OS SDK for WebWork?

Yes you can use a mailto link from the Smartphone SDK to launch into the messages application for a new email. Example page:

http://blackberry.github.com/WebWorks-Samples/kitchenSink/html/browser/schemes.html

This does not behave the same on the Tablet OS.  A bug was filed for this behavior, however others have found a workaround involving invoking the messages app directly, which is documented in the following issue:

https://github.com/blackberry/WebWorks-TabletOS/issues/53

Re: Send Email Message

Thanks, I'm referring to a smartphone app. Would a simple mailto:app@domain.com?Subject=Feedback&Body=myver work?
