Timing is everything

When @ BB10 Jam in London out Web Track speaker mentioned 'The White Screen of Loading'

This is something that all WebWorks developers will come accross

Why does this happen? Simple answer is that you're loading everything you use in your app all in one go.

There's gotta be a better way (there is)

Pesronally I write backends on servers mainly (day job) and experiment with technology in my limited spare time

If you google "asynchronous image loading" you'll get started on quick loading of your app

There will be people who read this one who are more familiar than myself with this concept (so POST)

If you're doing offline only you don't need that much more to speed your app up for its load-time

Re: Timing is everything

Afaik, the white screen flash comes from the AIR layer and should not be a problem on BB10 as long as you implement a proper asset loader or use a framework like Sencha Touch.
