Web site URL

Good day,

I am looking for someone to tell me why I can not have a backward slash '\' in a URL.

I am currently busy with some DIY home automation and in order for me to switch on and off devices i need a '\' in the URL. All that is currently happening is either ignoring the '\' or isn't placing it into the URL.

Please advise....

Re: Web site URL

if you look atthe URL specification in RFC 1738, the \ character is considered unsafe (paragraphe 2.2)

the safe characters are a to z, A to Z, digits, the % sign and the # sign.

I thus strongly advise you not to consider that you can use other characters.
