Phonegap has nothing to do with touch events you want to make use off or the use case you want to be handled. Read the Phonegap/Cordova documentation to be aware what it can do for you or not. IMHO Phonegap tries to adapt the different APIs of mobile OSs to create one reuseable interface to access those APIs in almost the same way on almost every supported OS/device. In that way you do not need to write your code for all the OSs/devices all the time, but only once.

And, for the functionality you are searching for, have you tried to do the same using bbUI.js since it is a really great and easy way to create everthing you need and not to worry about how to do it since bbUI.js is doing it.

Think OS5.0 isn't yet supported but they want to back-port to OS5.
Have you tried using Ripple in Chrome for your development? It exmulates WebWorks on a 9700 with BB OS6. Try to start with the KitchenSink example and then, if there is something you can use for your app try to research how they have done to get it working: http://blackberry.github.com/WebWorks-Samples/kitc
